چکیده

Motivated by the common academic problem of allocating papers to referees for conference reviewing we propose a novel mechanism for solving the assignment problem when we have a two sided matching problem with preferences from one side (the agents/reviewers) over the other side (the objects/papers) and both sides have capacity constraints. The assignment problem is a fundamental problem in both computer science and economics with application in many areas including task and resource allocation. We draw inspiration from multicriteria decision making and voting and use order weighted averages (OWAs) to propose a novel and flexible class of algorithms for the assignment problem. We show an algorithm for finding an Σ -OWA assignment in polynomial time, in contrast to the NP-hardness of finding an egalitarian assignment. Inspired by this setting we observe an interesting connection between our model and the classic proportional multi-winner election problem in social choice.

A Solution to the Random Assignment Problem with a Matroidal Family of Goods

Problems of allocating indivisible goods to agents in an efficient and fair manner without money have long been investigated in the literature. The random assignment problem is one of them, where we are given a fixed feasible (available) set of indivisible goods and a profile of ordinal preferences over the goods, one for each agent, and we determine an assignment of goods to agents in a random...

Multiple Assignment Problems of Indivisible Goods without Monetary Transfer

The paper studies the fair allocation of a finite set of indivisible goods among a finite set of agents. We focus on multiple assignment problems without free disposal so that, at least one agent receives more than one object. No monetary transfers are involved. The criteria include: (i) Pareto-efficiency; (ii) no-envy and derived notions namely single object no-envy which requires that all age...

Assignment Exchanges

Assignment Exchanges Paul Milgrom September 6, 2008 Abstract. We analyze assignment exchanges –auction and exchange mechanisms which are tight simplifications of direct Walrasian exchange mechanisms. These simplifications are distinguished by their use of “assignment messages,” which parameterize certain substitutable preferences. The “basic” assignment exchanges respect integer constraints, ge...

A New Model for Fleet Assignment Problem, Case Study of Iran Air Network at Vision 2036

The fleet assignment problem (FAP) assigns the type of airplane at each flight segment. Since airplane is an expensive resource, poor fleet assignment can cause a great increase in costs of airlines. There are so many consideration which should be tackled in formulation of a FAP problem, especially the parameters regarding to the airplanes. This paper presents a novel, mixed integer programing ...

An Interval Assignment Problem with Multiple Attributes: A DEA-Based Approach

One of the basic combinatorial optimization problems is the assignment problem that deals with assigning jobs to individuals. In traditional assignment problems, n jobs usually assign to n individuals such that the total cost is minimized or the total profit is maximized. However, in numerous real-life applications, various attributes could be considered in assignment problems while data (obj...
